PermaLinkAOL Says Spam Is Down?
07:32:56 PM

Recent news stories indicate that AOL is processing dramatically less spam, both at the gateway and in user mailboxes, and also receiving fewer spam complaints from their users. They are attributing it to the fact that spammers are deleting AOL addresses from their lists, because they know they won't get through, or that they might get sued by AOL if they do.

This is interesting, because just about everybody else (e.g., MessageLabs) was still seeing spam going up at least until mid-year, and still above last year's levels at the end of the year, and the media is reporting that the US CAN-SPAM Act has been ineffective. If AOL is, by virtue of the increadible , seeing less spam, the excess in this year's statistics must be going disproportionately elsewhere. Where could it be? It's got to be in corporate gateways and mailboxes and smaller ISP mailboxes.

Hell, I think I got 'em
Could this just be a little ploy by AOL to try to increase subscribers?

Sounds like they put their spam counter on the wrong side of their anti-spam appliance to me
