PermaLinkStanding O For Melissa Etheridge
10:33:56 PM

Melissa Etheridge, battling cancer for the past six months, did a kick-ass rendition of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" at tonight's Grammy Awards ceremony. She's a great performer, and as far as I'm concerned this may have been her greatest performance. She held nothing back at all, which is the way Joplin should be done. It was inspiring. A close friend of our family is fighting cancer right now. I hope she saw it. About halfway through the performance I said "this is going to get a standing ovation", and it did.

My Father died of cancer when I was 14. Others I have known and loved have also gone to this beast.

I am currently in awe of Anastacia who has fought and has currently won her battle with breast cancer. Her lastest, self titled, album has the same intensity that you mention in Melissa's performance. I think it is far more 'real' than her previous albums.

When my Father died I took a principle that if it wasn't a matter of life or death it was not worth getting overly stressed about. At the time that was easy, it gets harder the older I get with the increased responsibilities and the distnace from his death, but every so often I am gently reminded that I said I would live by this. I know it is the reason I get less stressed at work, than others do.
