No, not that Deep Throat ;-)
Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the two Washington Post reporters who broke the Watergate scandal story back in the Nixon years, had a secret source. In their book "All The President's Men", they nicknamed the source "Deep Throat". People have speculated for more than 30 years about DT's identity. Today, various news sites are reporting that in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, a fellow named W. Mark Felt, former #2 guy at the FBI, is stepping up and taking the credit. So far, AFAIK, Woodward and Bernstein aren't commenting, which to me indicates some doubt since they would have no reason to continue to keep their "until he dies" pledge if he has indeed come forward. And I doubt he would have done so without letting them know of his plans. I also have to wonder, why Vanity Fair? Could it be that publications with a stronger reputation for investigative reporting of hard news had too many doubts to go to press with this story?
Update: The Washington Post has posted that Woodward, Bernstein, and Ben Bradlee have confirmed that Felt is Deep Throat
