Via Bob Congdon, here's a home-made music video of Loverboy's "Working For The Weekend". It's nicely produced and a brilliantly funny retro take on '80s rock 'n roll bands.

And speaking of '80s bands, did anyone else have the misfortune of watching Hit Me Baby One More Time on NBC this past week? FIve 80s/90s has-been (and almost never-were) bands first playing their old hit, then coming back out to do a cover of a contemporary song and having the audience vote on the best one. The bands in the opening show were in fact Loverboy, CeCe Peniston, Arrested Development, Tiffany, and A Flock Of Seagulls. (Technically, it was really only one Seagull, not the full original flock. The rest were replacements. One of my wife's friends is married to the original drummer, who wisely sat this one out. His brother, the lead singer for the group, is the only Seagull who has been keeping the band going all these years. He wore a hat to hide the fact that he not only doesn't have the wild hairdo any more... he mostly doesn't have the hair.) So, let me summarize: they were awful, awful, awful, bad, and awful respectively. Not a one of them would have made the cut on American Idol. The audience agreed with me, I think, by voting Arrested Development the best of the night. Their take on their cover of the recent Los Lonely Boys tune "Heaven" was at least original.

Next week, Tommy Tutone, The Knack, The Motels, Vanilla Ice and Haddaway. Oooh... I can't wait! (Explanation for this comment can be found here).

I say the one with Chesney Hawkes (I am the one and only), Cleopatra (Comin' atcha) and a few others a few weeks ago. Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful - quite unwatchable.

And yet I cannot look away.

@Jon: I know what you mean. I'm strangely compelled to tape tonight's show! I won't be home to see it, but I want to see how the Greg Kihn band sounds. Will it be as bad as I suspect? They don't write 'em like that any more, that's true. But he probably don't sing 'em like that any more, either.
