I'm not asking for sympathy. I know that those of you in California are worse off, and especially those of you outside the US are much worse off. I just want to mark the day that filling the gas tank on my car nearly matched the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything.

Well I think this is hitting all in the Western World... In Denmark the price just crossed the magical 10 DKK mark per liter (~ 1.64 USD/liter) mark. Per liter - not per galon. So a 50 liter tank would be around 80 USD! - and that's expensive even for us in Denmark being used to high environmental taxes...

Some of us outside the US are actually better off. Trinidad and Tobago produces oil and gas is subsidised by the government.

Just broke 90 pence a litre here in the UK....not cheap.

That's a ■63 tank for me...or $300

Here in Chile things are like there. We pay more than USD$1.- a litre.

In my case my car is ~32 litres. so every time I full it I must spend ~USD40.- Just a couple of years ago I used to pay a bit more than 20 bucks.

Life is becoming very expensive.
