When I saw Ned's post about Candygram, I just couldn't resist saying "Land Shark!". :-) If you're too young to remember, or just weren't a fan back in the early days, here are transcripts I found of two first season SNL skits that explain the reference.

I heard about "Land Sharks" the first time when I was playing a famous MMPORG game from Sony, called EverQuest. Sometimes the sharks in the water bugged, and appeared on the shore :)

I did the exact same thing. It's an automatic response now - someone says candy gram and I think land shark.

Althoguh I know about the SNL bit, my thoughts went to Blazing Saddles.
"Candygram for Mongo!"

@Mac: I forgot about that one.

I could've sworn during part of the skit, the Land Shark mumbles..."room service.." but I didn't see it in the transcripts Rich.
In any event, it is a long standing joke between the kids and I. Whenever I need entree through the front door (my hands are full, I forgot my keys...) I rap on said door and mutter, "room service".

It could be that was the Killer Bees, and not the Land Sharks.
The first couple seasons of SNL coincided with my first couple seasons of college. Both are remembered through a heavy, smoky, haze....

@Mike: There might have been more land shark skits, so "room service" might have been part of one. Those were just the only two transcripts I found with a quick search.
